Educators Protest Budget Cuts

Updated: Mon 6:47 PM, Dec 01, 2003

As the governor huddles with her budget aides and legislators to discuss cuts that will total more than $900 million, educators are asking that they be spared.

A handful of representatives from various Michigan school boards demonstrated at the state capitol on Monday. They're hoping to influence lawmakers to stay away from more K through 12 education cuts.

Instead they're advocating a pause in the state income tax rollback scheduled to take affect in January.

The governor is expected to announce her budget-balancing plan later this week.
