Law enforcement authorities say marijuana is a growing problem in Michigan's rural areas. This after the discovery of $1 million worth of pot plants in Clinton County.
Authorities say they have seized more than 5,000 plants and 3,300 pounds of marijuana so far this year.
They say the trend is not to plant large numbers of crops in one location. But to spread the plants out in rural areas. So if found, the whole crop is not lost. Authorities say this trend makes their job more difficult.
Rural areas provide the privacy growers are looking for. Police say cornfields are where 50 percent of marijuana plants are grown in Michigan.
As of June 30, the Tri-County Metro Narcotics Squad has seized $1.2 million in drug money.
