Michigan State University utility officials have preliminary suspicions that an aging electrical infrastructure is to blame for a recent temporary blackout.

The blackout lasted about an hour say students who live in the two areas that lost power, Case Hall and parts of Cherry Lane Apartments.

The Director of MSU's utilities say they're working on upgrading their system but modernization is dependent on donations.

Officials say the outage was caused by a "tripped circuit" and do not know when the upgrade will be complete.

At least 1,100 students were affected by the outage.
