Oil and gas officials say the blackout of 2003 is to blame for the high gas prices in Michigan that range between $1.64 and $1.90.

AAA of Michigan says the statewide average for gas is currently $1.76.

Oil and gas officials say the blackout of 2003 cut back state supplies of gas by temporarily shutting down five refineries nearby and within Michigan.

Authorities say the busy summer travel season and the war in Iraq have also boosted prices.
