Candidates Talk Housing

The Lansing mayoral general election is just about three months away and both candidates vying for the seat are going head to head on the issue of housing.

Friday marked the first meeting of the newly formed housing task force. Created by Lansing Mayor Tony Benavides, school officials and local and state housing officials met to examine the housing stock in the Lansing area.

On the same day the task force meets, mayoral candidate State Senator Virg Bernero wins campaign endorsements from the Greater Lansing Home Builders Association and the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors.

Both candidates say they look to strengthen neighborhoods and bring more affordable housing to the area. Instead of a housing task force, Bernero says he would create a housing czar.

Benavides and Bernero say they are planning and developing strategies for the upcoming election.
