The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) announced it was proceeding with an investigation into the state’s involvement with the largest blackout in U.S. history.

The MPSC will focus on; the extent, duration and causes of the outage, reaction by utility companies and recommendations to avoid future blackouts.

Jackson-based Consumers Energy is one of several utilities involved in the investigation.

A spokesperson for the company says only eight percent of its customers were impacted by the blackout.

Consumers say it’s fully cooperating with state officials and legislators.
