One person is dead and four others are recovering from injuries after an apartment building exploded on Jackson Street in Dansville.
Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, fire and police crews from Dansville and surrounding communities were dispatched to a three-unit apartment building. Witnesses say neighbors pulled out some of the residents. Four were taken to Sparrow Hospital for burn-related injuries, and two were later released. Unfortunately, there was one fatality: 54-year-old Judy Balzer of Mason who was helping new tenants move in.
The fire spread to the roof of the Dansville Post Office. Residents will be able to get mail service from the Old Ingham Township Hall on Mason Street.
The Ingham County Sheriff's Office has a search warrant and will continue to investigate the cause of the accident on Monday, July 2 at 8:30 p.m.. They say they will treat it as a crime scene until they can prove otherwise.
