The MI Dept of Agriculture proudly displayed their new mobile emergency supply units. The Office of Homeland Security provided the state with two trailers equipped with enough supplies to send a six-person crew to a site if a natural disaster strikes, or if an animal is diagnosed with a deadly disease such as foot and mouth disease.

While the instances are rare, the Dept. says these units allow them to be prepared when duty calls.

"If we have a disaster, we don't have time to go to the store and buy our equipment. We need to be able to hook up the trailer and be on site within hours," Kevin Kirk, Special Asst. to the State Veterinarian.

The trailers also use computers to carefully track how many of their supplies are used, so they can be replenished before they are sent out on another call.
