Although the numbers were extremely close, the people of Lansing decide to keep Lansing Mayor Tony Benavides as the leader of the city.

Benavides defeats his opponent State Senator Virg Bernero by a margin of less than 300 votes. Benavides and his supporters anxiously awaited results until a phone call by Bernero conceeding the race eased their worries.

Benavides says he hasn't ruled out the possibility of working with Bernero, admitting he had some good ideas for the city.

Mayor Benavides gets 11,789 votes or 51% of the vote. Senator Virg Bernero follows close behind with 11,531 votes or 49%.
