Beginning July 1, drivers in Michigan who speed through highway construction zones face tougher penalties.
Drivers can now get three to five points on their licenses for going 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit in construction zones. Before, the penalties were two to four points.
About 2,000 injuries and 7,000 crashes occur each year in highway construction zones in Michigan.
