In exactly one week, MSU's incoming freshman will kick off the 2003-2004 college experience. Thousands of them will be moving into the residence halls on campus. Officials expect nearly 7, 000 students in the freshman class this year.
By the time classes start Aug. 25, officials estimate somewhere around 45,000 students will be enrolled in classes and hanging around campus.
The student influx has police on their toes. Starting Wednesday, the East Lansing police will have at least 10 additional officers patrolling for alcohol, parking and noise violations each night.
Local businesses are looking forward tot he massive student move-in. Several restaurants and retailers expect their sales in increase by 30 to 50 percent during Welcome Week and the remainder of the semester.
