Sparrow hospital patients with Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance are now guaranteed full coverage when they need medical care at the hospital.
That's because Blue Cross Blue Shield and Sparrow representatives developed a long-term contract after nearly a year of negotiations. The confidential contract has no expiration date and guarantees patients will receive undisrupted care.
In three years both parties will meet to discuss and adjust the economics of the contract, but until then, patients are breathing a sigh of relief.
In the meantime, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Sparrow hospital officials plan to work together to urge the government to provide more funding for Medicare, Medicaid and under insured patients.
Sparrow hospital representatives say caring for those types of patients is becoming extremely costly.
