Crossing Guards

Kids and parents are not the only ones preparing for the first day of school. Crossing guards throughout mid-Michigan are gearing up for the school year.

But the Lansing area, like many others, is facing an adult crossing guard shortage. Officials say there are only 30 to 40 guards for all the schools in Lansing and they say they would like to see at least ten more.

The lack of guards puts added pressure on the Lansing Police Department to cover the intersections where guards are not present. Officers say it puts one less person on the streets and takes them away from their normal beat.

For more information on being a crossing guard, officials say call Lansing city personnel at 483-4004.
