What's Going Around

As trick-or-treaters get ready for Halloween, Sparrow health experts are reminding parents and kids about safety.

When preparing your costume, make sure your visibility isn't blocked by a large mask or a hat. Shoes should fit properly as well, and costumes should be light colored. If it's a dark costume, experts recommend glow sticks, reflective tape, or a flashlight.

But health experts also treat more hand injuries during the Halloween season due to pumpkin carving.

"Have kids help with the designing or painting of the pumpkin, but the actual carving should be done by an adult," Dr. Mont Roberts.

Parents should also inspect candy before it's eaten. Make sure no prepackaged treats have been tampered with, and that anything homemade is thrown out.
