Governor Granholm Goes on the Road With Budget Questions

Gov. Granholm will travel around the state to talk to residents about the state's $900 million budget deficit. The tour will include one-hour forums broadcast on television cities in six cities. WILX will televise the Governor's Lansing event on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.

Gov. Granholm says she will meet with Republican legislative leaders after her budget tour to write a budget-cutting executive order and hopes to have the deficit resolved by Christmas.

Also, Gov. Granhom made six cost-cutting executive orders which she expects will save the state about $14 million. They are:

  • Cut the state's passenger vehicle fleet by 1,200.
  • Place a moratorium on out-of-state and restrict in-state travel.
  • Cut cell phone, pager and wireless data services by 15-percent.
  • Slow or stop the purchase of nonessential supplies.
  • Cut periodical subscripts in each state department by 15-percent.
