A recent Michigan State University study shows the importance of Internet access for kids.

The study focused on 90 low-income families in the Lansing area. The three-year study found that children who spent more time online using the web performed better in school after one year than those who spent less time.

Experts say the text-based nature of web pages is causing kids to read more. The median income of the families in the study was $15,000 a year.

The average age of the children was 13 and they spent about 30 minutes a day on the computer. One and a half million dollars was spent on the project.
