The woman accused of murdering her boyfriend and burying his body in her backyard is also a suspect in an alleged embezzlement.

Police say the United States postal authority is still investigating Linda Marquardt after they discovered someone committed mail fraud to embezzle money from the AARP in 2001. Marquardt was the office manager at Lansing's AARP office during that time.

Postal officials say the investigation into the embezzlement theft of at least $46,000 is still ongoing. Lansing AARP employees say they discovered a former employee had embezzled money from the company by billing out fake services throughout the company's Washington, D.C. office.

They say the Washington, D.C. office would pay a fake company, created by the former employee, for services the Lansing office never requested or authorized.

No charges have been filed in the case. Marquardt's attorney says he doesn't know much about the investigation, but he has indicated Marquardt pleaded not guilty to open murder charges against her.

Marquardt is awaiting a preliminary examination on Aug. 11, 2003. That exam will determine whether or not the case will go to trial.
