Two men were pulled to the banks of the Red Cedar River after driving their SUV into the icy waters. It happened shortly before 1 p.m. on Cedar near the intersection of Elm Street.
An off duty police officer at a nearby carwash saw the SUV plunge into the river. He called for help then jumped into the water to help the two men in the vehicle.
The rescuer and the victims have been taken to a Lansing hospital. Officials tell WILX.com that two of the people are in stable condition. The third is in critical condition.
Investigators still don't know why the SUV went off Cedar Street and into the river. It has been removed from the water.
