Lansing Police are looking for a suspect in the rape of a 62-year-old Lansing woman Monday morning. They say it is unrelated to another rape in East Lansing and two other abduction attempts.

Meridian Township Police cleared up an attempted abduction Monday. Police in East Lansing are investigating the rape of a 19-year-old girl that happened early Sunday. And police are looking for information into the attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl in Williamston Township.

All local police say the events are unrelated. And sexual assault counselors at the Listening Ear in East Lansing say while the attacks are not unusual, it is unusual to have so many reported in such a short amount of time.

Counselors say a rape happens in the United States every two minutes, but only 39 percent of those crimes are ever reported. They say it is also discouraging that of those reported rapes; only six percent of assailants ever spend any time in jail.

They also say it is important for survivors to come forward and get help, and to remember that it is never the woman’s fault.
