State Budget Is Complete

But they're scheduled to return on Aug. 13 to tie up loose ends.

Thursday, lawmakers approved cutting all local governments' revenue sharing payments by three-percent across the board. Gov. Granholm floated a similar proposal earlier this year.

Some House Republicans had wanted to change the way the cuts were distributed. They wanted less revenue sharing money for large cities and less of a reduction, or even an increase, for some smaller townships.

At a conference committee hearing, lawmakers agreed to stick with the across-the-board cuts for the coming budget year. But they promised to use a new formula to dole out revenue sharing payments in the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1, 2004.
