Triple-A Michigan says the average price of a gallon of gasoline has dropped 56 cents during the past five weeks.

The statewide average for self-serve regular unleaded is two dollars and 46 cents.

That’s about 14 cents less than a week ago and 47 cents less than this time last year.

The Traverse City area has the most expensive gas among Michigan's metropolitan areas at $2.58 a gallon.

But Triple-A says that's a 43-cent drop from a year ago.

The Detroit-area average has fallen more than 67 cents a gallon over the past five weeks to $2.41.

The Dearborn-based group surveys 2800 gas stations each day for its report.
