A national report is applauding Lansing for its efforts to protect local waterways from storm water pollution.

"The Greening of Storm Water Report" says Lansing is among three Michigan cities using nature as a cheaper and more efficient way to manage storm water runoff.

Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Grayling are using green roofs, rain gardens, pollution-absorbing ponds and other low-tech alternatives to combat storm water runoff.

Storm water runoff is the nation's leading cause of water pollution.
