Nationwide Salmonella Outbreak Includes Mid-Michigan
At least one case of illness is confirmed in Eaton County.

At least once case of the nationwide outbreak of salmonella has been confirmed in Eaton County. The Michigan Department of Community Health has reported that, in addition to Eaton County, 20 cases have been confirmed among Arenac, Bay, Kent, Lapeer, Macomb, Mecosta, Muskegon, Oakland, Ottawa, Tuscola, Washtenaw and Wayne Counties and the City of Detroit.
Victims' ages range from one year old to 73 years old with a median age of 9 years. Sixty percent of the cases are male. At least seven people required hospitalization.
The illness was diagnosed between mid-October and early December.
Nationwide, nearly 400 people in 42 states have gotten sick. It's not clear where the outbreak started.
Salmonella causes stomach cramps, diarrhea and fever. The symptoms usually go away on t heir own within a week.
