Don't switch that dial, there's a new cable company in town.

"AT&T U-Verse; it's an integrated suite of products, it's television, Broadband Internet an voice services all across one pipe line," said Bob Nixon of AT&T Home Solutions.

The new service offers five different TV and Internet packages and two voice packages, that you can mix and match.

"You can program your DVR from your computer, so if you were at work, you forgot to set your DVR, you wanted to record that game or that show, you could do that from work, you could even do it from your mobile phone," Nixon said.

So how much will the service set you back?

"If you were just going to do television only you could get that for $44 a month and then if you wanted to do a full on, your probably talking $150 to $160 a month if you did all three together," Nixon said.

Comcast packages start at $39.99. In a portion of a statement to News 10, Comcast said "Comcast competes every day across all three of our product lines with a variety of different providers . The phone companies are just trying to catch up to where we are today."

MSU Telecommunications Professor Johannes Bauer says more companies means more choices and better service, now matter which provider you choose.

"Ultimately this is good news, it means more variety, more choice options in the number of channels that are available in the download speeds, another benefit will be hopefully, it will improve customer service, so when there's outages companies will respond faster," Bauer said.

Bauer says customers should carefully weigh the pros and cons between the two services.

"The main difference AT&T can offer that Comcast currently cannot offer is they also offer the choice of wireless services through AT&T Wireless, Comcast of course has the advantage that it has offered its service for a long time, where as AT&T inevitably there will be some wrinkles in the beginning, until the service works well," Bauer said.

The service is currently available in: Lansing, East Lansing, Jackson, Meridian Township and Okemos.

To see if you are eligible for the service visit: UVERSE.ATT.COM or call 1800-ATT-2020.

If AT&T moves forward with theis UVerse whereby the free access channels are bundled with the other 99 channels, I am changing my telephone and internet services. AT&T has no business making the public access channels less available than the trash that is carried on many other channels. KEEP FREE SPEECH BY KEEPING FREE ACCESS CHANNELS AVAILABLE AT A CLICK.. NOT BY HAVING TO JUMP THRU A MYRID OF SEARCHES.

Competition is a joke. Here is Georgia we were promised competition a year and a half ago. NO COMPETITION. Prices are still rising and the PEG feature is non-existent.

Good, now we can finally get rid of Comcast! Their service was horrible and it hasn't worked correctly after three 'fixes' in the past six months! We've also had two rate increases...
