Churches, temples and other religious establishments in Lansing now have the Mayor's ear.
Tuesday, Mayor Virg Bernero signed an executive order creating a "Mayor's Office of Community and Faith-Based Initiatives."
He met with members of various religions today at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Lansing.
The Mayor says this new effort shows the city is diverse and open to everybody.
Lansing's new faith-based office is modeled after similar offices at state and federal levels. It has a stipend of $45,000 to get started. Organizers will apply for various federal grants for additional funding.
