Police are now saying that a fire that seriously damaged a downtown Williamston restaurant is arson.
The fire at the Williamston Bucket was spotted around 7:30 Sunday morning by a woman living next door, who heard the business's fire alarm.
Williamston's fire chief tells News 10 the fire began in the front of the restaurant. The blaze caused serious damage to the first floor, but firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to the second floor or to adjoining buildings. Although the damage is extensive, News 10 is told it is repairable.

While the investigation continues, the exact nature of the arson is not being made public. The state fire marshall and Williamston police questioned people throughout the day, but no arrests have been made. Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call the Williamston Police at 517-655-4222, or call the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee 1-800-44-ARSON (anonymous). There is a standard $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in arson cases.

This is the second fire at the Bucket within three years. The tavern was rebuilt following a February 23, 2006 fire that started in the kitchen.

I think Craig's a good guy, he did not have anything to do with the grease ball who burned his nice bar down... Yea things do look fishy but the first fire may have gave this guy an idea to do it again, especially if his Christmas money did not come through which probably through this guy on a rampage and he thought "Hey I will burn it to the ground again, that will how em'"..That type of thing.. As far as Craig Banwell I hope he gets his place back up and running and feels blessed the felon was caught. Good luck CB's Bucket! Will be in for dinner and a beer when you re-open.. ;)

Now that the investigation is over and the appropriate athorities found the criminal, what does everyone have to say about that? It sounds like everyone wants to knock Craig down as a business man. Why? Did he do something to that community that you people don't agree with? Well good luck Craig, like you have always said if people aren't talking about you, that means your not doing anytjhing with your life. It's too bad some scum bag had to be jealous and take it out on you.

The fire is minor compared to stuff that happens down at apartments.

Honestly, these comments here are just opinions based on what goes on in the everyday happenings..If ya read the news everyday, things just keep getting stranger and stranger. And Humans are becoming dumber and dumber. It is embarrassing to read the news, be a US Citizen and see the stupid headlines out there. People try to get away with anything anymore..Like one poster here said..Someone is always wanting to look like the victim.. Yes I hope they investigate this with full force..As our insurance rates keep going up because of Arsons....

everyone is always quick to judge, just contact dep. of labor to see if any employee hasnt been paid. kind of ironic that the place is always packed and they seem to have a happy staff, could there ever be disgrental employees.hmmm

Does anyone know if the owner himself was one of the people questioned by the police? If there was an arson it would only make sense to start with checking the guy who apparantly was heading up a less than thriving bar.

along the same lines though... I had more checks bounce in my life there than anyone I believe. There are also several pending actions brought on by former employees that are friends of mine in an attempt to get paid for the work they did. I will be one of them.

wow, as an employee I have to say that I do not believe anyone working there is to blame. Although, there were some problems with working in that place I would hold judgement until the place has been properly investigated.

The manager lost power at her resident for a week due to unpaid DTE power bill, last week. Ran a generator for eight days before power was restored. Owner did pay his workers!
