By this time next year there could be 150 new jobs in Mason. Auto part maker Gestamp US Hardtech is adding on to its facility and adding jobs too.
President Sten Sjoberg said the company could have expanded in Mexico or Alabama, but it chose mid-Michigan because of the millions of dollars in tax credits offered by the state of Michigan and the city of Mason.
Gestamp US Hardtech makes side impact beams, the steel beams inside vehicle doors. The Big Three automakers use their product as does Mercedes and BMW. In mid-Michigan, the company ships to General Motors' Lansing Grand River Plant.
The facility and the workforce will nearly double with the expansion. Construction should begin sometime soon after Labor Day and the new employees should be on the job within the next year.
