Granholm Approves Education Spending

Public schools will get $210 more per student and universities and community colleges will see increases under budget bills signed today by Governor Granholm.

The budget year begins October 1.

The bills provide more than $13 billion for K-12 education. School districts now will get at least seven thousand and eighty-five dollars per student, with some districts getting more than 11-thousand dollars.

Spending on universities will total one-point-eight billion dollars. Each university will receive an increase of at least two and a half percent, with some receiving more.

Community college spending will be 290 million. Increases for community colleges will range from more than two percent to more than seven percent.
