The Ingham County Commissioners announced Ingham County is projected to have a $2.5 million shortfall in next year’s budget. As a result the commissioners are asking the state to not decrease its revenue sharing with local governments as it’s done last year.
The commissioners estimate that in the current and next year Ingham County will lose over $600,000 in state revenue sharing because of cutbacks.
According to some of the commissioners, the budget shortfall may cause the county to make cuts in programs or projects or look for additional revenue.
A smoking tax would help Ingham with its budget, however some believe only moderately.
