The sign at the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church says service will be held like normal this Sunday, but parishioners know better.
"You know it's kind of like if your home would catch on fire. It's a very personal feeling to someone who goes to church here," Parishioner, Lisa Lehrke, says.
The first look inside the church revealed charred stain glass windows and ash coated walls. It's left everyone wondering what happened. Now, questions will be answered.
"A worker at the church was in the process of extinguishing incense and thought it was out and put it in the waste container in the sacracy area," Eric Copeland of the Jackson Fire Department says.
Copeland adds that the fire was completely accidental, and that the church will make a full recovery.
The building itself is the least of worries for those who attend mass every Sunday.
"We're blessed even with all of the damage here, no one was hurt. If it had happened two ours earlier...I don't even want to think about what could've happened," Parishioner, Jeannette Lienhart says.
And perhaps even more tragic is the fact that the fire broke out three weeks before Christmas, but parishioners say there will be a Christmas mass.
"A congregation can exist without the church," Lehrke says.
A thought that along with prayers has helped church goers in Jackson overcome tragedy that they never saw coming.
