While door-busters cashed on the deals on black Friday, they let their fingers do the walking on cyber Monday.
"Maybe as many as one out of three adults is going to do some Internet shopping on cyber Monday," said Tom Scott of the Michigan Retailers Association.
Websites like CyberMonday.com offered hot deals exclusive to the net, many offered free shipping, and 10 to 50 percent off, and shoppers are expected to pick and click away.
"They were projecting about a 15 % increase this year in the number of people shopping and in actual sales," Scott said.
But it's not just holiday hype, the proof is in the numbers, web traffic at ACD.net Internet service provider is up nearly 25 percent from a regular Monday.
"The higher spikes that we're seeing are between 10:00 a.m. and noon, and some kind of fall off as is natural during the lunch hour, but we're still seeing higher utilization of those shopping websites at lunch," said Kevin Schoen President & CEO of ACD.net in Lansing.
Schoen has been tracking the traffic on user I.P. addresses, and he says on an average Monday they see around 150 terabytes of data transfer off their network, but on this cyber Monday they expect to reach 220 terabytes.
"Most of the sites that the traffic is coming from are a lot of sites like Amazon.com; Ebay is also seeing an increase as well, a lot of the consumer type specialty websites as well, and consumer electronics, we're seeing an increase to those websites," Schoen said.
