The FDA is defending the safety of baby formula sold in the U.S. despite tests that found trace amounts of the toxic compound melamine in one product, and a related compound in another.
Very low levels of melamine were found in both a Nestle brand formula, as well as one from Bristol-Meyers Squibb.
The FDA says the amounts found in the u-s are far less than levels found in china.
FDA tests found very low levels of melamine in Nestle's Good Start Supreme with Iron formula.
And the FDA found a related compound in Bristol-Myers Squibb unit Mead Johnson's Enfamil Lipil with Iron.
