It's a dream come true for drivers, pedestrians, and bus riders.
"I'm very happy because it inconvenienced a lot of things, people use the bus to go to jobs, it delayed a lot of jobs; doctor's appointments," said Lansing resident Larry Johnson.
The orange barrels and cones that signaled the Combined Sewer Overflow Project have disappeared for now, but they'll be back come spring and city officials say there's improvement on the horizon.
"Improvements to finding signage, how people get their information and what they like to see within that information, " said Chad Gamble, Director of Lansing's Public Service Department.
The project changes the city's infrastructure by separating raw sewage from storm water, Lansing city engineer Dean Johnson says next year's construction will target sections of Allegan and Chestnut Street downtown, as well as some neighborhoods.
"The downtown area will be the central business district around Allegan and then Chestnut street there's a mixture of commercial and residential, the greatest amount of activity next year will be in these two large neighborhoods," Johnson said.
Neighborhoods like the surrounding area of Willow St., but Gamble says it's still scaled back from this year.
"Next year there will be a little bit more work in and around the neighborhoods, but as a whole not as much as this year," Gamble said.
"We think that this past year was probably the most intensive work in the downtown area," Johnson said.
But residents aren't getting comfortable with the lack of construction.
"It's not all over because they're still doing construction every place else," Johnson said.
