Traffic is flowing freely again on northbound U.S. 127 after an evening accident brought vehicles to a halt.
Lansing Police say a southbound vehicle crossed the median near the Dunkel Road overpass.
It struck a northbound car head-on, which was then hit by two other northbound vehicles.
The accident happened at about 5:50 p.m.
The scene was cleared about two hours later.
Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Alcohol may have been involved in the accident.

Kris ... Can you tell me what you saw as you passed the accident. A friend was in one of the cars in the northbound lane that was struck.

I saw the police lights from the southbound side, and there was a vehicle with a very bent up front end but I don't think that was the head on hit but maybe one that hit another from behind. We had just travelled northbound and were coming back, I was worried going northbound originally- people were going entirely way too fast for the road conditions, it was very rainy and slick and there was heavy traffic- stop and go- before the accident even happened. But obviously the accident was the result of something different. I'm dreading winter driving on that stretch, there's no way it should be 70mph through there.

I went through that area on the southbound side right after it happened (based on the time reported - I did not see the accident.) I did notice as I slowed down near the accident that something was on the road on the southbound side. To me, it looked like salt or pebbles. I think it was spread across both lanes. Did anyone else notice that? Did you witness the accident from the southbound side? What happened? I hate when I see accidents like that.

I was stuck in the traffic back-up from this accident for over 1 hour. 70 mph is much too fast for this busy stretch of highway.

They blocked off the ramp to get on to US 127 N at Dunkel.
