An Eaton County deputy crashed his cruiser into another car near downtown Charlotte Thursday afternoon while he was rushing to a burglary call.

These pictures were sent to us from a News 10 viewer, Terry Lowery, who tells us the accident happened right on his property.

The sheriff's department tells WILX.com, the deputy had his emergency lights and siren on and was passing a row of cars on southbound Cochran Street when one of the the cars turned into his path.

The deputy was not hurt, but his car was totaled. The driver of the other car was taken to Sparrow Hospital, but the victim's injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Again I heard nothing in the news about any burglary, rape, armed robbery etc. That happened in the surrounding area of Charlotte, and if I were the Police Dept. and my deputy smashed into a car I would make sure that anything that may have happened get reported as proof that there was indeed a burglary going on. I am not saying "don't drive fast" to respond to a call, but again how much difference would 20 mph make, besides keeping the innocent safe. I once had a police officer tell me as I was getting a ticket for speeding, going 30 miles over the speed limit only saves you between 2-5 minutes worth of time, so it's not worth endangering others, this reigns true speeding through a heavily populated area such as downtown Charlotte, and really after they were out of the populated area I am sure they could make some time in the country where they're are not as likely to be near a lot of houses and heavy traffic. Again a little common sense.

Since it was a county deputy maybe he was headed to Olivet or even Bellevue. If it was your house being broken into and your wife or daughter was in there getting raped I bet you'd complain if they didn't drive fast with their lights and siren on. Since Charlotte PD always has 2-3 cars on duty I doubt it was something in the city.

I understand he was on a call, and needed to get there quickly, but this is frequent on that particular rd. All the homes on that rd. have no more than 30-40ft of yard between their front door and the Rd. and children play in those yards. There needs to be some sort of common sense used when driving through a heavily populated street such as this one. I don't care how much training one has, no one is perfect and it just takes one little slip for something horrible to happen. Like a 2,000 pound car flying through a house, or worse killing someone. We got lucky here!!! I don't think any ones life is worth some two bit burglar, this was not a hostage situation, or an armed robbery, it was a burglary!!!! So the moral here is officers need to ask themselves what would be the difference between doing 80 in a 35 mph zone or a reasonable 60mph? Get there quick or keep the innocent safe?? Funny I have heard nothing in the news today about a burglary in the Charlotte area.....Wierd!

It was just a matter of time before this happened. I live nearby and ironically enough, there is a cruiser that flies past my house several times a week. Hmmmm, wonder if it’s the same officer! I highly doubt he was going to a burglary at 3:30 in the afternoon, on the south side of Charlotte. What, did a cow break into the neighbor’s barn!? Come on!

Ha! Do they need to drive that fast? Charlotte is not that big. Plus how was the deputy going to catch the burglar with his emergency lights and siren going full blast? You would think the burglar could that.
