A suspect is in custody on Monday, after one teen-ager is killed in Jackson and another in Blackman Township. Authorities believe the motive may have been revenge.

Authorities say 18-year-old Jackson resident Donald "Boo" Jones was shot multiple times. He was found lying in the street on the 1300 block of south Milwaukee around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

At about 2:20 a.m. on Monday, Blackman Township officers found 16-year-old Deandre Breedlove dead. He was also shot multiple times on Fern Avenue in Blackman Township.

Authorities say they believe he was shot in retaliation. A suspect is now in custody, taken from the Sun Valley Trailer Park in Blackman Township. The investigation continues.

Juvenile Murders in the U.S.

• In 1997, juvenile offenders were known to be involved in about 1,400 murders in the United States.

• Law enforcement agencies were able to identify the offender in about two-thirds or 62 percent of all reported homicides in the U.S.

• As a result, 1,700 juveniles were implicated in 1,400 murders in 1997.

Juvenile Violent Crime Statistics

• On average, juveniles were involved in one-quarter of serious violent victimizations annually over the last 25 years.

• In 1997, juveniles under age 18 were involved in 27 percent of all serious violent victimizations, including 14 percent of sexual assaults, 30 percent of robberies, and 27 percent of aggravated assaults.

• About half of the days in a year are school days. The other days fall in summer months, on weekends, and on holidays. Despite this, 57 percent of all violent crimes by juveniles occur on school days.

• Juvenile violence peaks in the after school hours on school days and in the evenings on non-school days.

• On non-school days, the incidence of juvenile violence increases through the afternoon and early evening hours, peaking between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
