Jackson Public Schools approved a $1.8 million budget cut to achieve a balanced budget, but the numbers behind the budget were not necessarily the focus.
Approximately 200 people protested outside of Jackson High School. They were picketing because of the schools decision to examine privatizing some school jobs such as; custodial, transportation and skill trades workers.
While the cuts and inquiries into outsourcing jobs raised eyebrows, Jackson’s superintendent, Daniel Evans commented on threats he says he received during the budget process.
Pat Robins, a representative from the Michigan Education Association, said Evans believes she threatened him and released a memo about her alleged threat.
Robins denies any wrongdoing and said, “I am going to ask him [Evans] to withdraw his statement or we will sue for defamation of character.”
Evans says he will not withdraw his statement.
