As soon as September, 180 new manufacturing jobs will be created in the Capital City. Lansing based Demmer Corp. is close to sealing a deal to make armor for military vehicles. If the plan goes through as scheduled, up to 200 more jobs could be added in the future.
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and representatives from the city's Economic Development Corporation made the announcement Thursday on a walking tour of the former Motor Wheel Plant building. Demmer Corp. declined to comment on the announcement.
Demmer Corp. used to make auto parts, but its Larch Street building has been vacant for at least three years.
The city expects the company to pay out about $3 million in new taxes plus income taxes, but still needs tax breaks from the city and state to make the project official.
