Many want-to-be swimmers found disappointment when they headed to Hunter Park Pool this hot first week in July. The pool will be closed for the whole summer.
It had been scheduled to open this week after maintenance, but the city's Leisure Department Manager says there were problems. New paint put on the liner is chalking off. Not only is it unclear whether the paint is chemically safe, but it clouds the pool, making it hard for lifeguards to see through the water.
Crews will be working on the pool to get it back open for next year. In the meantime Moores Park Pool on Moores River Drive is open. You can swim there for free everyday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. For more information on pool rules call the pool at 371-2778.
