Drew Macon is one of the lucky police recruits. He and 10 others have jobs lined up after graduation, but with the tough economy and continuous budget cuts, the fifteen others graduating in his class are having a tough time finding jobs.

Despite the need to make a five-percent cut in it's budget, the Lansing Police Department hired Drew and six other recruits. Though the budget is still being designed and reworked, officials there say Drew and his fellow recruits will not be in danger of being laid off once they start work.

The East Lansing police department has no room for more officers, despite the average of five people they hire each year. That department has to cut back a few positions and spread more responsibilities among less officers.

Many of Drew's classmates however, are optimistic they will find a career if they persist.
