Police say the warning lights were on and the gate arm down at the railroad crossing when a car drove through it and collided with the oncoming train on Hagadorn and Mt. Hope roads in Meridian Township.
Police won't say the condition of the driver or exactly why he or she did not stop for the train.
It happened just before 12:30 Sunday afternoon when the vehicle went through the gate and into the side of the engine pulling the C & O train.
The car was knocked onto its side and the driver taken to the hospital.
