Three candidates filed for the Mayor's seat in Lansing. Lansing interim Mayor Tony Benavides officially filed for the seat on Tuesday night.

Benavides says his life experiences and service as a city councilman for 22 years should help him through the election process.

Retired state employee Leon Black and director of the National Association for the Advancement of Trans-gendered People Melissa Robinson have already officially filed their intentions.

State Representative Michael Murphy says he will also throw his hat into the ring. He says he plans on making his announcement sometime early next week.

The deadline for filing is May 13 at 4:00 p.m. After that, all candidates have three days to withdraw. The primary election starts on Aug. 5.
