Ask any Adrian resident about the town they call home, and they'll all tell you the same thing...
"It's a really safe area," Trisha Nolan of Adrian says.
Or at least that's what they thought until news of 34 year-old Chatyn Byrd's arrest from the Sand Creek apartment complex Friday night. Byrd's being charged with attempted murder and selling drugs.
"September 27th he was featured on America's Most Wanted, and we got a tip from an anonymous source that said that he was the same individual they had called us about, about a month and a half ago," Lt. Steve Galbreath says.
With the Sand Creek apartments so close to two nursing homes and a church, the residents who live there say they can't believe a suspect from America's Most Wanted was living right next door.
Trisha Nolan says she's shocked because of the lengths Sand Creek puts forth to provide a safe community.
"They do full background checks so I'm really surprised, but I'm glad they have doors that lock," Nolan says.
That's a thought Lester Woods agrees with, and while he's glad Byrd is behind bars, he still wonders what could have happened especially in an area full of children.
"You never know what he is capable of, you know, you're talking about attempted homicide, what if he succeeded? And the next time it was somebody here?" Woods asks.
Woods adds that his eyes have been opened by this entire experience.
"Think about it. Everyone who is on the run are the people hiding in a small town" Woods says.
But for now the small town of Adrian can only hope they're now safe.
