EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say lettuce suspected in recent E. coli sickness cases in Michigan came from California.
Some of the 36 sickness cases now reported were at Michigan State University and the Lenawee County Jail.
Health officials have said some of the cases might be associated with industrial-sized packages of iceberg lettuce sold to restaurants and institutions from Detroit-based Aunt Mid's Produce Co.
The Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News and The State News report Friday that Michigan State University student Samantha Steffen has sued Aunt Mid's after getting ill.
Testing at Aunt Mid's found no contamination. Aunt Mid's CEO Philip Riggio said he doesn't believe the lawsuit has merit.
There is no evidence that lettuce at grocery stores is affected.
