Cuffed Suspect Steals Police Car

A suspect handcuffed in the back seat of a Jackson Police Department patrol car was able to get through the security partition into the front seat and drive away. He crashed the car, but escaped and remains on the loose.

Twenty-eight-year-old Melvin Deshawn was arrested Thursday night on cocaine possession charges. While taking Deshawn to jail, the arresting officers stopped to help another officer inside a building.

Deshawn was able to squirm through the security partition into the front seat and steal the patrol car. Just a few blocks away the car was found crashed into a building. Deshawn had fled.

Police are looking for Melvin Deshawn. If you have any information you can call the Jackson Police at 788-4100.
