Bekum America, maker of machines that produce plastic goods, is helping Williamston Schools with the business of education. The school district and company are putting into practice the suggested relationship urged by Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
Bekum reinstated its $1,500 Williamston High School Scholarship and donated $1,000 to the school's band.
"While not a tremendous amount, it's an example of how schools and business can work to bridge tough state funding," said Chris Rugh, Principal of Williamston High School.
The school and Bekum participate in an externship program allowing teachers to learn in the business setting and bring back practical experiences into the classroom.
The hope is the business contributions will lead to an improved local workforce.
