Just weeks removed from bitter U.S. protests of French products for that government’s stance on the war in Iraq, could local Arab-American businesspeople experience a similar kind of economic boycott?

Ali Elbast, owner of New Aladdin’s Restaurant in E. Lansing, says there could be a kind of economic backlash if the war continues.

He believes that a minority of people could experience tension with people of middle-eastern descent, and in response may spend their money elsewhere.

He believes the vast majority of his current patrons are highly supportive of Middle East business around mid-Michigan.

Ultimately he hopes for a quick end to the war, as he believes better business will follow.
