Cars manufactured by the Lansing Car Assembly Plant won first, second and third place in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. Thursday, local union workers and GM executives gathered in Lansing to receive awards.

The Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile Alero and the Pontiac Grand Am took top honors. The Lansing Car Assembly Plant also received the Bronze Plant Award.

Assembly line workers and other plant employees say these awards prove they are ready to produce a quality product at a new plant, and they say they hope GM will soon finalize plans for the development of a plant in Delta Township.

Plans for the Delta Township plant stalled as a result of environmental and economic concerns, but Kent Sears, the Vice President of GM North America indicated things look optimistic for Lansing's autoworkers.
