If you've been outside at all in the past couple of days you've seen and heard the rain that seems to be dumping on Mid-Michigan by the buckets which the Ingham County Sheriff's Office says is a problem when folks hit the road.

"We have had approximately 6-10 crashes," Sgt. Jeff Weiss says.

And that was just Saturday alone, where I-96 and 496 meet, and with more of the wet stuff on the way today comes a warning to all drivers.

"People just need to slow down, they need to drive to the conditions on the roadway, and at times that may be very slow speeds," Weiss says

If motorists don't follow those directions Weiss warns they may not be as lucky as they were on Saturday.

"A young lady came close to hitting a tree at about 75, so we've gotten really lucky," Weiss says.

More rain on Sunday also means an increased chance of standing water...

"If you come to a situation where you find standing water, just let your foot off of the gas and decelerate, do not brake hard, don't keep your foot on the brake," Weiss says.

But an alternate route might be the best idea, since cars can overheat in a matter of seconds.
