According to the Capital Area Michigan Works, by 2015 the capital area region will experience negative workforce growth. It’s a trend business leaders say could be crushing for the economy.
The study officials revealed that the impending retirement of baby boomers, trends of workers leaving the mid-Michigan area faster than arriving as well as relatively low unemployment rate would leave the workforce almost barren.
These trends make luring new business into the area extremely difficult said Douglas Stites, C.E.O. of the Capital Area Michigan Works.
Stities says while there is no “silver bullet solution to the problem,” he says education, embracing immigrants in the area and marketing the region to perspective business and workers is part of the solution.
